Dear Esteemed ACLASITE,

On behalf of the 2016/2017 Executive Council, I welcome you to school and to this online platform.

To our Freshmen, this is a new start, a new beginning and a new chance to make the right choices and to live the right life. The department of Communication and Language Arts offers you a wide variety of skills and personalities development opportunities. It is my utmost hope that you will choose wisely and according to your strengths.

Our Middle Years Students, the race is not over yet. This is another opportunity to rewrite your tales and learn and correct your past mistakes. The Failures of Yesterday are to serve as Stepping Stones to the successes of Today and the Foundations to the Histories that will be told in the Future. Remember, Winners don’t Quit; Quitters don’t Win!

The Gallant Finalists, I am very happy that we have all made it to the Final List despite the different hurdles on our rocky way. To be candid, the race has not been easy – we have only been able to overcome all by the grace of God. However, the time to rest is not now. This last lap of the race must be ran with all Diligence, Perseverance and Determination. So, let us not be weary in well-doing, for in due season, we shall reap if we faint not!

Please, know that the payment of dues for this session has begun. To know more about this, kindly click here.

Once again, we welcome you to the 2016/2017 Academic Session.

We hope you have a hitch-free stay in school.

Have Fun!

CLA: From Past to Present

The Department of Communication and Language Arts came into existence on the 1st of July, 1975 as a result of the decision of the academic department within the Faculty of Arts.

The Reading Centre, which gave birth to the new department was first established during the 1964/65 session, with the following objectives:

  • To advise first year students on methods of study; to improve their speed of English reading and comprehension; and to continue assistance for students in other years who feel the need for special help in this field.
  • To carry out research into ways of improving the teaching of English readings of Nigerian students.
  • To train Nigerian personnel as Reading specialists.
  • To act as a resource and guidance centre for institutions concerned with improving the teaching of English reading in schools.
